New Zealand’s temperate maritime climate allows a wide range of red wine varieties to flourish. From warm and wet Auckland to the most southerly wine-growing region (in the world), Central Otago.
Cabernet blends and Syrah flourish in New Zealand’s warmer regions, such as Hawke’s Bay, Auckland and further north.
Cooler climate varieties, such as Pinot Noir and Riesling are cultivated with great success in our more southerly regions: the Wairarapa, Marlborough, Canterbury, Waipara and Central Otago.
Here is a selection of red wines, grown and made in New Zealand, and often produced in small quantities. Direct from the Makers.
